Winter Term

It has been awhile since we've updated the our blog. So to get you all up to date, this year has been going so well and the Lord has been working in the house and also in each of our small groups. Right now in small groups we are starting up a study of women in the Bible. Each room at Charis is named after these women and we thought it would be a great way to know more about and be able to better identify with their stories. Other things happening this term are sibling's weekend and applications. So, if you are a sibling of a Charis girl you are invited to come down and spend the weekend with us soon. Details will be coming on that. Also application deadlines are on the horizon. We start interviews soon and select our residents for next year by spring break so if you are at all interested fill out an application.

Missions Opportunity

This summer I am excited to be able to lead a team to Slidell, Louisiana. The team will be complied of Charis and Antioch (our brother house) residents. I am anticipating taking a team of about 20.
We will be staying at Faith Bible Church in Slidell, Lousiana. If you would like information on the church, you can check out their website at: http://www.faithbibleslidell.com. You can also follow their Katrina Relief by checking out Faith's Hope, and that website is: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/FaithsHopeFBC?ref=ts.
I am really excited for a chance to head back. Slidell is very near and dear to me-this will be my fifth trip to the area. The trip is going to happen from Saturday, June 26th-Saturday, July 3rd.
There are many details still up in the air, but as I watch plans come together, I know this trip is going to impact so many lives (both team members and residents of Slidell). We will be working on houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Hopefully on Wednesday (as a change of pace) we will be able to spend the day working with Carpenter's House. For more information about Carpenter's House you can visit their website at: www.crescentcitycarpentershouse.com.

Keep checking for updates as the dates for our trip get closer!

Gearing up

This week we began the process of praying for who would be filling the role of managers next year. I know it seems really early (the year is only half over) but we wanted to make sure we could put in plenty of time sitting at the lord's feet and not rush such an important decision. We would greatly appreciate all the prayers we could get. Some of the things you can pray for are:
~That the Lord would speak and we would listen
~The the hearts of the girls who are supposed to fill this role would be prepared for what is coming
~That we as a leadership and a house would be united in this decision

We are also getting ready for our house retreat this weekend. We are going to the Udell's (Amy and Jessica live here) house in Dallas Friday through Sunday. Cindy Rogers from Calvary Chapel is going to be speaking. There will also be ample time for bonding together has a house and within small groups. Some way you can be praying for us:
~God would prepare the hearts of all who are going
~That God would protect Cindy from attack and use her to touch the lives of all of us going
~That girls would walk away refreshed and filled with the spirit.

Thank you so much for all of your support and prayers. I don't know what we would do with out you all. Your prayers are definitely felt.

NEW FURNITURE!!

For those of you who have been to Charis anytime in the last 7 years you will know that we were in desperate need of some new living room furniture. When the house started people were kind enough to donate their old couches, unfortunately the result was that nothing matched. Over those seven years the couches have been well loved and resulted in a lot of wear and more than a few tears.
This winter we were blessed with the ability to go pick out NEW furniture for the living room. We got 5 new couches, 2 love seats, 1 over large chair, and 2 accent chairs. The living room has been transformed and is absolutely beautiful! It has been so much fun watching people gather more than they used to in the living room. There is always someone down there studying, reading, or just hanging out.

Pictures to come.

Sibling's Weekend!

Siblings weekend was so much fun! I got to have six of my younger sibling's come visit and stay in Charis/Antioch and they loved it! It was really fun to be able to show them where I live and go to school. We went bowling and played dodge ball, volleyball, basketball and went to the Dixon for a movie and free stuff (woot)! It was a ton of fun!

Small Group Reveal

Small group reveal is an exciting and hilarious time at Charis. All the girls have been living in the house for a few weeks and have already started building relationships with each other and small groups is a way to deepen those relationships and also to grow together as we learn more about Christ. This year there are seven small groups, and for the reveal each small group leader selects a theme for her group to dress up as. Each girl in her group gets an invitation in her mailbox, telling her what to wear to the reveal. This year’s themes ranged all the way from caveman to 80’s prom and Doctor Seuss.

On the night of the reveal our lovely cook Heather reads a short introduction about each small group leader and they emerge decked out in whatever theme they have selected. All the girls in their group scream and get excited and take lots of pictures. It’s a great way to start off the year.
